Kent was raised in Dannebrog, Nebraska. He gained his love for music from his father who cut three records with three different polka bands. His father taught him how to play the drums when he was five and his love for instruments grew. His father passed away in May of 1998 and left him his guitar. That’s when he decided to play.
He went to college at North East Community College then came back home to play in a band called Shelterbelt as time went on his love music became stronger and also influenced his brother to play. His older brother Kirk now plays Dobro. Through the years Kent has become musically talented not only playing the guitar but also playing the mandolin, drums, harmonica, and one string standup bass built by him and his younger brother Chris.
Kent's love for music has expanded to bluegrass playing for a band called Sherman County String Band with a song called In the Hills of Sherman County describing their love for bow hunting and the outdoors.
Some of his greatest influences are Steve Earl, Charlie Robinson, Chris Knight and, of course, all the great country classics.
